Departing from Saint-Paul de Vence · Market · Tastings · Lunch by the Sea · Italy within reach
The Tuesday market (8:30 AM – 1:30 PM) offers a quieter, more local atmosphere — perfect for a genuine immersion. Saturday (from 6:00 AM!) is larger and livelier. Your chauffeur will advise on the best timing depending on the season.
Just one hour's drive from Saint-Paul de Vence, crossing the French-Italian border opens the door to an authentic, sun-drenched Italy — the Ligurian Riviera, with its colourful village facades, its scents of basil and olive oil, and its grilled fish enjoyed by the Mediterranean.
San Remo — the "City of Flowers", Europe's floral capital — is home to one of the most colourful and generous markets on the coast. Under the roof of the Mercato Annonario, local producers offer Taggiasca olives, DOP olive oil, fresh pesto, warm focaccia, homemade pasta and mountain cheeses.
The morning at the market leads seamlessly into a fine lunch by the sea, at one of the Riviera's most celebrated restaurants, accompanied by a glass of Vermentino or Pigato, the great white wines of Liguria. Italy at its very finest.

"Beneath the roof of San Remo's market halls, Italy reveals itself in all its generosity"
The Mercato Annonario has been the beating heart of San Remo for generations. Its covered halls shelter families of traders who have worked here for decades and are delighted to offer tastings. Many vendors speak French, making exchanges particularly warm and welcoming.
The Taggiasca olives — the quintessential Ligurian variety, small, mild and fruity — are the star of the market. Found marinated in herbs, in oil, as tapenade or pressed into DOP olive oil ranked among Italy's finest. Nearby, the focaccia comes fresh from the oven, golden and fragrant, to be enjoyed warm with a drizzle of oil.
The outdoor market offers leather goods, textiles and crafts. The nearby fish hall is also worth a visit for its gamberi di Sanremo — the celebrated red prawns fished just offshore.
